Wyalong District

YESTERDAY, TODAY & TOMORROW

The Wyalong district was first explored by immigrants in 1817, and the first squatters settled in 1833. The area quickly changed after the discovery of gold in 1893, resulting in a centralised settlement where today you will find history, art and industry intertwined.

The area is full of fascinating stories, and even though it is located far from the capital cities and coastlines of Australia, it still plays a significant role in Australia's history.

Wyalong District, in the Bland Shire, provides research for the collective of towns that surround the central townships of Wyalong and West Wyalong. The towns included in our research services and archives are:

Current Projects

Cemetery Maintenance - Volunteer Today !

We are currently working on updating the numerous cemeteries in our district

Our objectives are simple but require a lot of time, work and some physical effort such as researching, identifying, clearing and cleaning.

Due to legal issues we are unable to undertake any restorations, so we rely on family members of those interred to undertake this work.

If you would like to be a volunteer and help, please contact us, or visit our Facebook page for more information. We also advertise any upcoming work on our local radio stations, newspapers and in our journal.

How you can help today

Unmarked Graves

With our ongoing projects connected to the Wyalong Cemetery and "Tales from the Grave" books, we continue to notice numerous unmarked graves in several sections of the cemetery.

Do you have an ancestor buried here? Does their grave remain unmarked?

If you need any assistance in finding out, or putting a plaque in place, please contact us. We can help.
